Neilston Cemetery

Neilston Cemetery opened in 1875 to replace the churchyard surrounding Neilston Parish Church. Many of the fine headstones are by monumental sculptors, William Robin of Paisley and Martin Scott & Co, Glasgow.

Notable internments include William Shanks JP, the first Provost of Barrhead and part of the ceramic sanitary ware dynasty. Also Kate Cranston of the Glasgow Willow Tearooms fame, in the Cochrane family lair. Distinctive features include the ceramic guttering and the delightful coffin topped gate posts.
